Can Green Be Funny?

There are probably some pretty funny articles, books or sketches about the green movement. It’s actually a great target – often worthy, sometimes overblown and not devoid of “interesting” characters. However, if you want a teeth-grindingly awful “witty” article on how ethical living has affected our lives, why not try this from the The Times. I am going to be as generous as possible and assume the whole article is a brilliant inversion of the middle-class belief that going green simply means buying slightly more expensive vegetables and is in fact ridiculing this greedy and self-righteous approach. It’s not a bad premise, it’s just executed so dreadfully. Come on extremely well-paid national press journalists - I know it’s summer and most people are on holiday, but surely someone can concoct something approaching an amusing deconstruction of the varnish-thin green veneer plastered over nearly everything these days. If I wasn’t so drunk on organic cider, I’d give it a go myself.
